Context
Located on an unusually shaped, tight site next to a marsh, traditional floor plans were not an option for this new home. The clients were looking for convenience and flexibility as well as a certain amount of privacy in a fairly public location. They also wanted to ensure single-story living for enjoyment of their home for many years to come.
Response
A Y-shaped plan with a central fireplace allows for full master bedrooms on both levels and allows the home to be tucked in to the property and set back from the front lot line. Traditional detailing complements a more modern living style with generous glass and open public spaces, including a dramatic second-floor office with curving light scoop to capture the southern sun.
Renewable Materials
Local materials were used whenever possible.
Energy Efficient
Dense packed, dry blown cellulose was used, making this house much tighter than a typical new home and earning this home an Energy Star rating.
