Context

Matt & Karen had each grown up lakeside, and decided it was time to realize their dream of living on the water again before too many more years went by. They found a beautiful piece of land on Ayers Lake, not too far from their current home, and started putting the pieces together to build the home they would live in for the rest of their lives. Their primary goals were to build a unique and spirited house that would be low cost, low energy, and low maintenance.

Response

With sweeping views of the lake and an open, airy interior, the new home nearly meets Passive House standards with a predicted heating demand of 4.75 kBTU / sf / year and a total predicted source energy of less than 38 kBTU / sf year.

Energy Efficient

The building envelope is tightly sealed with a blower door test that achieved 1.0 ACH50.
