Gaby Silverman earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Ringling College of Art and Design in 2016. In 2022, she was selected to participate in INTERIOR DESIGN’s 30/30 event, an exclusive gathering celebrating standout designers aged 30 and under to share creative visions and discuss the future of the industry. Her decade-long career as an Interior Designer spans projects across healthcare, workplace, educational, and community spaces in major cities including Minneapolis, Boston, New York City, Washington D.C., Atlanta, San Diego, and San Francisco. After spending six years based in NYC and working in some of the country’s most famous cities, she recognized – just as the rest of our team has – that Maine is where she belongs and relocated to Portland in 2026.
At the heart of Gaby’s design philosophy is a commitment to people. She approaches every project by first understanding the individuals who will use a space and considers their specific needs, routines, desires, and daily experiences. Growing up with a disabled sister has helped her to view her work with this lens. “I always advocate for accessible and universal design and integrate these principles from the project outset,” she says. “I strive to create environments that balance aesthetics with function and are, above all, inclusive and inviting.”
Gaby also believes designing with the intent to create lasting value and spaces that endure is foundational for sustainable practice. She notes “every decision, from space planning to selecting durable materials, should contribute to an environment that adapts to changing needs and enhances the daily lives of the people who use it.” Among her favorite design moves are using warm and layered lighting to create cozy atmospheres, embracing the subtlety of natural materials and textures, and strategically incorporating colorful or patterned tile.
We know that Gaby’s own home is as thoughtfully detailed as her work, or at least it was until she adopted the world’s cutest and most mischievous kitten, Goose. He may be tiny but brings a level of chaos (and absolute joy) to everything he touches, particularly when scaling the kitchen cabinets or frantically chasing his own tail. Once he tuckers out, however, he makes the perfect lap-warmer for Gaby while she rewatches Gilmore Girls for the eleventh time.
